Fluff

February 28, 2009

Pillow. Seems easy enough. Only thing is, I’ve never made one. My mom helped me (read: did all the hard work) make some for my made-over room when I was about 12 and that was my last experience. Funny how today’s pillow brought me back to that day over and over 🙂 Also funny was how I made mistakes and realized WHY my mom did certain things the way she did.

Warning: the fabric is eggplant (ok, a little lighter), not red. Please forgive the color shifts in the photos.

Lesson 1: do not measure and mark fabric while sitting on carpeted floor…

Lesson 2: consider how your material will be going through the sewing machine when pinning fabric together

If I had pinned with my left hand, I would have had an easier time pulling out the pins as I sewed.

Lesson 3: unless you’re making a placemat, make sure you leave an opening to stuff your pillow

I got so carried away in the excitement of actually sewing, I had to go back and undo about 20 stitches to create my hole.

Lesson 4: another lesson about that hole…put it in the middle of a side, not on the corner…will make your life easier once you have to close it by hand

stuff, fluff, close hole by hand

All and all, I’m quite proud of myself. Even with the small challenges, I just kept moving along. Go me!

Valentine’s Sweets

February 15, 2009

I’m a huge fan of Bakerella and Valentine’s Day marked the second holiday that I used one of her recipes/ideas for my baking needs. Here was the Bakerella version. Here’s my rendition:

cake mix makes cookie?

cake mix makes cookie?

Using a cake mix to make cookies was very surprising but it had a nice consistency. I did end up with quite a few more than Bakerella said she made. Also, Los Angeles is a little short on the red velvet cake mix. How sad! Guess chocolate will suffice.

yummmm

Let me just say that these “cookies” alone are delicious!

This is also delicious but might send you into a sugar coma. The recipe made waaaaay too much and it was so sweet we could hardly eat them. (we managed somehow! haha)

done!

Thanks, Bakerella!

For Love

I wanted to create a Valentine’s Day card using limited resources. I stumbled across some extra canvas and here is the unfolding (and folding) of this year’s V-day card for my sweetie.
